Rescue a Reef

The University of Miami (UM) Rosenstiel School's coral conservation program unites researchers, students,
and community members in coral research and restoration.

Also of Interest

Our UM research lab uses strong, science-based techniques to grow threatened coral species in land and offshore nurseries to create a sustainable source of healthy coral colonies for use in active reef restoration. These gardened coral populations are also utilized to drive world-leading research in coastal protection, reef recovery, and climate resiliency.

Community Coral Garden Project

This project highlights the significance of community participation in environmental conservation, providing an avenue for individuals directly impacted by the state of coastal resources to become integral stewards of their local ecosystems. Through hands-on involvement and collaborative efforts, the Community Coral Garden Project not only enhances the health and resilience of coral reefs but also fosters a sense of ownership and responsibility among community members.
